Frequently Asked Questions
My transmission is leaking red fluid. Do I need to rebuild it? Not in most cases. As long as you have kept the fluid level up, and you feel no slippage of the transmission. In this case, you may only need a gasket kit and/or a front and rear seal. You should have your mechanic take a look to see where it is leaking. The transmission on my '50s classic is slipping and the fluid is brownish. I assume it needs a rebuild. Is your rebuild kit all I will need? Yes, in the case of a slipping transmission that is still operational our kit is all you will need in most cases.
My transmission is not operational at all. I pulled the pan, and I see bunches of metal shavings. Is your rebuild kit all I need? In this case, you may need additional hard parts, depending on the amount of damage. Start with one of our rebuild kits. Your mechanic will know right away as soon as he gets into the transmission. Then contact us for additional needed parts. We will let you know if we have the needed part. If not, we can help you locate it.
Okay, so I need a rebuild kit. If I order today, when will I see it? We ship daily via USPS Priority. So you will see your kit in about three business days if you are in the U.S. Shipments outside the U.S. will take about 5-9 days for delivery.
Obviously, I can't do the job my self. How do I find someone to rebuild my transmission? Most of the chain type transmission garages specialize in newer vehicle transmissions. But give them a try. They may be able to give you a good lead. It is best to look for a smaller shop in your area, one that has been around for a long time. Also check with classic auto clubs in your area. Finding a quality transmission rebuilder is usually not too much of an issue.
Ok, So I bought the Dynaflow kit, rebuilt the transmission and it works great! Now, what do I need to do to keep my Dynaflow in tip top shape? First of all, be sure to change the fluid on a regular basis. Do not race your Dynaflow. The variable pitch Dynaflow is designed for smooth cruising. Sudden acceleration on a regular basis could do damage. If at all possible try to avoid shifting from low to drive and drive to low while the vehicle is in motion. Keep speed low if your are in low. It is always best to start out in drive and let the variable pitch do its work. The Dynaflow is a great transmission and will provide many years of good service. But you need to be good to your Dynaflow in return!
Do you carry parts for any other transmissions? Yes, we also carry rebuild kits and parts for Oldsmobile F-85 F85, AMC Rambler, Powerflite and Turboglide transmissions. Send us an email or give us a call. We will see if we have what you need.
